Small farmers and workers are among the most marginalized by the global trading system, particularly in the pickle sector. Fairtrade cooperative member farmers like Raju have access to a range of social services:

• Training opportunities
• Access to collective bargaining processes
• Adequate occupational health and safety conditions
• Sufficient labor facilities to manage the fairtrade premium
• The label also requires zero tolerance of child labor, forced labor, equal pay and women's governance.

As Raju explains: "Since we've been practicing Fairtrade farming, we get a premium and can decide to buy what we need, such as farming equipment. We also get better profits because of it."
